Do Not Use Your Cell Phone in the Library
I just wanted to ask why people get upset over following the rules? Right before you walk into the library there is a big sign that says "Do Not Use Your Cell Phone in the Library," so why do you get uspet when the librarian tells you to turn it off? You knew before entering the library that it is a place for study and peace, but you choose to break these peace by answering your phone. You could have done the considerate thing and put your phone on vibrate so that no one would hear it, but instead you have it ringing at full blast so it interrupts everyones' reading and studies. Some of you are at least considerate enough to say sorry and excuse yourselves to speak outside, but others are so desrespectful and continue to talk even though all the signs say "No cell phone calls in the library." Some of you are so desrespectful that you get in a huff and a puff when the librarian asks you to take your call outside, and she is just doing her job and trying to make it an enjoyable and peaceful environment for all. Those of you who continue to talk on your cell phone do not see the distracted and annoyed looks of the peopole trying to read and finish their studies, or maybe you feel your right to talk on the phone is more important than their right to peace in the library. I am not trying to be desrespectful to anyone, but what is so important that this call could not wait until you are on your own personal time? We often can hear all the intimate details of your life in such a confined area, and do you want us to know that Bobbie is divorcing Ann because of some private rash? Do we need to know this? Bobbie and Ann are fictious names, but I have actually heard people divulge details such as these about close family and friends, so do not forget that people will remember what they hear. Next time you go in the library, please consider turning your cell phone on silence so we do nto know all these things about you. Really it helps you focus on being at the library and what did we do before cell phones? We waited until we could talk to someone at a more appropriate time, so I think we should practice this again. |
